I am captivated by the unfolding of stories. Curiosity compels me
to catalog details and explore relationships. Curiosity drives
my momentum to develop a vocabulary of line, form and color to
describe the arc of a novel, the course of an enterprise, the pursuit
of a pastime, the progress of a city.
How does it begin? Elements jostle for prominence and a
framework emerges. What happens next? As compositions evolve,
a deconstructed interplay of subject and environment materializes,
mapping a topography of circumstance and viewpoint. Facets of
perception and metaphor intermingle. A rhythm emerges. How will it
end? I render a painting traditionally with pastels when my
composition mirrors the linear path that shapes the story.
I earned a BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University, graduating
with highest honors in Communication Arts & Design. My experience
as a designer/ art director has served me in bringing scope to the
objectives of my paintings, which have graced books and magazines,
institutional and corporate communications, advertising campaigns,
murals, posters, packaging, signage and multi-media, garnering
numerous citations and awards. My first illustrated book, The Young
Reader's Shakespeare: Macbeth, was hailed as "superbly evocative...
capturing all the drama of Shakespeare's classic play" (Scholastic
Book Clubs). I am a member of the Pittsburgh Society of Illustrators.
